Intro and Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Hi, I'm phillyexpat. I've been in DC for about 12 years, starting at AU in 1995 and staying ever since. Currently, I live in Dupont Circle.

I volunteer regularly with Capital Area Food Bank and with Hunger Action at the Washington DC JCC. I've also enjoyed volunteering at Food and Friends during the holidays, as well as serving as a crew team member for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

Upcoming Events:
Hunger Action at the JCC on Thursday, June 7, 7:00 p.m.. Volunteers prepare large meals that are picked up and distributed by DC Central Kitchen. The meals are prepared on the 3rd Floor of the DCJCC, which is located at 16th & Q, NW. It is metro accessible via Red Line/Dupont Circle, as well as the S2/S4 bus and G2 bus. The organizers suggest a $5 donation, which is put towards the purchase of supplies, etc. Click here to sign up. Signing up will give the organizers a heads up on how many people to expect.

Capital Area Food Bank on June 16, 1:00 p.m.. I am organizing a small group of volunteers to work in the Food Bank's warehouse from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. We'll be working on whatever they need--past projects have included organizing cans, packing up boxes for the Kids Cafe, sorting potatoes, packing boxes for senior centers, putting together weekend meal packs, sorting pickles (that one you need to ask about! ;) ).

The Food Bank is metro accessible via the Red Line/Brookland-CUA. Parking is available as well. If you are interested in coming, please let me know so that I can tell the Food Bank how many additional people will be joining us. I encourage volunteers to bring non-perishable food items, as well as plastic grocery bags, with them.

You can learn more about Capital Area Food Bank here. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know so I can give the Food Bank a headcount.
